Tantrum Wedding-Father of the Brides Letter
Hello All,
My name is Ken and Debra is my daughter. She told me awhile back, around Christmas time, that she and her boyfriend Mike will be getting married, finally!!!
Now, we all know that everyone is having extremely hard times financially. I live in Albuquerque , NM and work as a police officer. We have recently been hit with a pay cut and an insurance rate hike which are costing me quite a bit of money. Needless to say, I cannot afford to give my little girl the wedding she deserves. This hurts me because as her father I shouldn’t have to do this. In a way it makes me feel like I have failed. When Debra was growing up I was in the US Army and was away from home a lot. I missed a lot of things that I can never get back with her. It hurts me so badly to think I might have to miss the one day that changes her life.
I posted an ad on Craig list in Salt Lake City just asking for help. I’m not looking for money, just help. I did get one response from a beautiful lady who had volunteered her time and experience to do Debra’s make-up and hair. Then this women’s friend offered up his salon and staff to host the wedding and take care of all the hair and make-up. This will make for a wonderful change from the courthouse ceremony they were originally planning on.
Debra has lived in Layton for about 8 years now and I have not seen her since she moved there. I have never seen, let alone hugged, my two grand-kids that she has blessed me with due to the financial hardships I have faced. I am trying my nest to figure out how to get up there for the wedding, which is March 12, 2011.
Like I said, I am not asking for money. I am just reaching out to see if there is anyone else out there who can help out and volunteer their services to make her special day incredible. I would appreciate any and all help.
Thank You,
Ken
Tantrum Wedding-Brides Letter
My name is Debra Neiberger. I'm a 25 year old stay at home mom and this is the story about me and those who have become my family.
In Colorado Springs in 2003 I met Michael Uhlhorn through my best friend. After a few months of talking to him and getting to know each other we started dating. After a few more months we found out we were pregnant with our first child. After a very long and complicated pregnancy with more trips to the ER than I can count our daughter Serenity was born happy and healthy. We were living with my mom at the time. Soon after our daughter was born, my mom and her boyfriend got engaged and of course wanted to live together. This left Mike and I with a newborn and nowhere to live. His family that I'd only met once before said they would happily take us in. So, off to Utah we went to start the next chapter of our journey. Life was great for a few years; we got on our feet and moved into our own place. Fast forward a few years-it's 2007 now and we agree it's a great time to have another baby. At the end of 2007, December 17th to be exact, we got a phone call that Mike's parents' garage was on fore. No one was hurt but the fire did take its toll on everyone.
So now it's March 2008 and life is almost back to normal, well except the house is under construction. when Mike's dad, Mo, has a heart Attack. He of course gets put on medication and starts doing a little better. April was very busy, we found out I was pregnant with second child, Mike's dad had to have surgery to have stents put in and I lost my job.
The summer of 2008 we all moved back in together. After a long, hot summer it seems things are almost back to normal. In November I gave birth to a healthy son named Dylan and construction was all done on the house.
After that things went downhill. Mike's dad has had multiple surgeries and heart problems. Every time they get something fixed it seems something else goes wrong. After two years of doctors and medicine and surgeries he is still going to doctors at least once a month. Two years of all this medical stuff and with it still going on the stack of bills just doesn't seem to stop building.
While we all try and help each other win the uphill battle of bills and doctors and try to keep our hopes high. We all realized Utah had become our home. As an Army brat I moved around a lot and it feels so good to put down roots and have a place to call home. We have all made great friends and we are so excited to raise our kids here. We aren't the most traditional family but the love is so deep and it's the only family I have had for years. We aren't looking to be a charity care; we know a lot of people are dealing with hard times right now. We just need some help making our wedding day beautiful and one to remember. Thank you for your time and reading our story

Salon Tantrum Gives Back!
To my fellow Utah resident:
It seems like all we hear about on the news lately and in our community is the negative side of humanity. Times are tough for most of us right now, and it is easy to get caught up in our day to day struggles and forget about the rest of the world. I’d like to tell you a story about strangers helping stran...gers, with the hopes that you will also be inspired to be a part of something special.
A couple weeks ago I saw an ad on Craigslist that caught my attention. It was from a father who was looking for help giving his daughter a wedding. He wasn’t asking for money, just help making her day special. I was inspired to write this man and offer my services as a licensed Cosmetologist to at least make the bride look beautiful on her special day. The next day, the father (Ken) called me and we spoke for awhile about the situation. He is a police officer in New Mexico and his daughter lives here in Layton. She and her fiancĂ© were planning on marrying at the courthouse because they could not afford a real wedding. His dream of walking his little girl down the aisle was not going to come true. After speaking to him and then speaking to Debra, the bride, I was inspired to try to do more. I spoke to my friend Tommy Bassett, who is the owner of Tantrum Salon in Layton. Tommy offered to host the ceremony and reception in his beautiful salon, and to take care of the hair and makeup for the bridal party. As we spoke more we realized that with the help of the community, we could make this day even more special.
This is where you come in. We are not asking for money, we are asking for people to donate their time, talents, services, whatever they can to make this an amazing wedding. We need everything from flowers to food to table settings to music, etc for the big day. The wedding is going to be on March 12th, 2011, so this does not give us much time. We are planning on going to the media with this story, so know that your generous gift will be recognized and appreciated by everyone in the community. This is a chance for us as a community to rally together and pay it forward to a deserving family.
Debra and Mike are an average couple. They could be your neighbors, your children, your siblings. Everyone remembers their wedding day, whether it was a small intimate ceremony, a temple sealing, or even a large affair. No matter what, this is one of the most important days of a person’s life. Won’t you help make that dream come true for this couple? We have enclosed a letter from Debra, the bride, and her father Ken to further explain their situation. If you can find it in your heart to give anything at all to make this day special, please email us at the address below. Every little thing counts.
Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Andrea Arthur, Tommy Bassett, and the entire team at Salon Tantrum
